If Australia raked in the gold medals at the Paris Olympics, it was also a winning result for Gold Hydrogen.

Car giant Toyota used the event to showcase its hydrogen cell-powered Mirai vehicles – 500 were loaned to Olympics organisers for the duration of the Games.

Stockhead reported the Toyota move under the heading: ‘GOT GAS: Olympics driving hydrogen visibility’.

It said Toyota had been using the Games “to spruik hydrogen as the clean fuel of choice”.

“The event is an opportunity to increase exposure of its hydrogen fuel cell technology, which fuels the fleet of 500 Mirais that it provided, as well as prototypes of one of Australia’s favourite vehicles – the HiLux.

“At its core, providing the Mirais for the Olympics does indeed do wonders to raise the visibility of hydrogen, particularly in Europe where the gas is seen as a core component of its net zero plan.”

Stockhead said hydrogen development was still in its formative stages but “there’s a very real argument for its use in power generation and commercial transport”.
